FreshGrade Connect is a digital portfolio platform, also available via web and iOS or Android app, that enables communication among students, teachers, and parents/guardians. Upon signing in, teachers can easily create classes by adding or uploading students and customizing standards and assessment scales. Then, add posts and activities to the feed in the form of events, portfolio items, or assessments. Posts may include standards, files, tags, audio, video, images, or cloud-based uploads. Depending on the audience, grown-ups or students may add items to the portfolios in order to provide a clear picture of student progress. However, since teachers control the visibility of each activity, what gets shared is easily manageable for each posting. Teachers can also take advantage of different scales to show student progress toward goals, mastery of standards, content knowledge, and more.
Overview
Why are we moving to FreshGrade Connect for September 2021?
FreshGrade Classic is no longer supported with updates. They rebuilt the program from the ground up in Connect to give teachers, students, and parents everything available in Classic with improved features, stability, and reliability.
How is FreshGrade Connect different from Freshgrade Classic?
There is not a significant difference in the user experience. Classic users will be able to navigate the new platform fairly easily. A few of the features may appear in different places, but the general experience is much like the Classic version. The one big change is that when students login to their portfolios they will need to be invited in via a valid e-mail address such as student@sd22learns.ca or student@sd22.bc.ca.
What happens to the data in FreshGrade Classic?
You and your students/families will be able to log into FreshGrade Classic to see all of your archived classes. Freshgrade has informed us that they will contact account holders to download data when the Classic service is eventually shut down.
Will my class be uploaded to Freshgrade Connect like it was for Classic?
No. The data in FreshGrade Connect will no longer be populated from MyEd BC. Teachers will be able to manually add students OR upload them all at once using a .CSV file from MyEd BC. Instructions on how to generate a .CSV file based on the data in MyEd BC can be found below. This means you can get going right away and make changes on the fly.
When can I start using it?
Freshgrade Connect is up and running. You can create a new account and start playing with it, today. This might help you see the advantages over Classic.
Will I still be able to use the app on my iPad?
FreshGrade Connect has a new app for iPads and it still works on browsers on iPads and all other computing devices.
How do I get the FreshGrade Connect app onto a school iPad?
Teacher iPads that are set up with access to the App Store, so the FreshGrade Connect app can be downloaded manually. An app request will be required to install the app on any student-assigned iPads that do not have access to the App Store. This may also be a good time to request that the FreshGrade Classic app be uninstalled. Please create a HelpDesk ticket to do this by e-mailing helpdesk@sd22.bc.ca.
Are there how-to guides available right now?
Yes - check out the specific SD22 guides below or FreshGrade has a great support site with lots of helpful resources, including a Getting Started section for teachers who are new to the platform.
