The Mid-Year/Mid-Course Written Learning Update, and the Summary of Learning reports through MyEdBC are a district requirement. For extra support and tutorials please visit the MyEdBC How-to page.

​K to 7 Mid-Year Written Learning Update

The Mid-Year Written Learning Update is a requirement for all K to 7 students.
Requirements
  • Completed in MyEdBC
  • Includes a Written Learning Update for Literacy and Numeracy that includes all of the required elements (strength-based comment, proficiency scale)
    • Teachers using Seesaw may, in consultation with their principal/vice-principal, enter "See post entitled Mid-Year Learning Update in Seesaw Portfolio", in lieu of a strength-based comment, unless an IEP is in place
  • Provides a Student Engagement comment in MyEdBC
    • Teachers using Seesaw may enter "See post entitled Student Engagement in Seesaw Portfolio"
  • Enter student self-assessment comments or indicate where and when students completed the self-assessment on all three categories of the Core Competencies
    • Teachers using Seesaw may enter "See post entitled Core Competencies in Seesaw Portfolio",

8 and 9 Mid-Course Written Learning Update

The Mid-Course Written Learning Update is a requirement for all Grade 8 and 9 students.
Requirements
  • Completed in MyEdBC or in an ongoing manner through Spaces
  • Includes a Written Learning Update for each course in each semester that includes all of the required elements (strength-based comment, proficiency scale)
    • Teachers using Spaces may, in consultation with their principal/vice-principal, enter "See post entitled Mid-Course Written Learning Update in Spaces Portfolio", in lieu of a strength-based comment, unless an IEP is in place
  • Provides a Student Engagement comment 
    • Teachers using Spaces may enter "See Student Engagement post in Spaces Portfolio"

Summary of Learning in MyEdBC

The Summary of Leraning is a written report completed in MyEdBC on student progress in relation to the learning standards in all areas of learning. It is provided to parents at the end of the year in elementary, at the end of the course for secondary, or when a student changes schools or districts. This forms part of the student's permanent record.
Requirements
  • Completed in MyEdBC
  • In all areas of learning
    • Provides a strength-based comment that describes where the learning has landed
    • Indicates student level of performance as per the Provincial Proficiency Scale
  • Provides a Student Engagement comment
  • Enter student self-assessment comments or indicate where and when students completed the self-assessment on all three categories of the Core Competencies

​Goals for the Summary of Learning:
  • Clear personalized communication with parents about student progress throughout the year on the learning standards and big ideas
  • It is not an average of student performance, but where the student has progressed to by the end of the year or course
  • Identifies what the student can do, what they are working on, and next steps for learning
  • May include information on ways to support the student at school and at home
