As we continue to adapt to the changes Covid19 brings us, we may find ourselves in a remote or blended teaching situation at any given moment. This toolkit is to help you prepare and respond to a remote teaching scenario.
Step One: Make sure you have a digital tool in place to communicate and share with families.
We highly recommend being proactive in case you are suddenly in a situation of remote teaching by having teacher and student access to one of these platforms ahead of time. If you haven't already, practice logging in with your students (or parents if you teach young students) and accessing the various tools. Click HERE for the Remote Learning Framework document. |

Consider these online platforms for creating your Virtual Classroom.

Step Two: Integrate interactive tools into your video conferences to better engage your students.
During a remote teaching situation don't try to replicate how you teach in the classroom. There are effective teaching tools to engage learners in online learning with brief and timely interactive lessons. Explore tools for interactivity. Try working with small groups or creating breakout rooms for students to collaborate. |
|
Step Three: Adopt some low prep: high yield strategies to find out what your students have learned and provide formative feedback.
Consider using choice boards to promote student agency. Providing students with the ability to make key decisions about their learning experience, is an essential aspect of remote/blended learning. Providing choice can help us universally design learning experiences that strive to remove barriers and invite students to decide how to engage with information, make meaning, and demonstrate their learning. See HERE for more information about how to design Choice Boards. Assessment can be a challenge when you don't see your students in person day-to-day. These tools provide ways to capture what your students know and understand, and provide a way for you to provide formative feedback about their learning. |
