Play is vital for young children and should have a central role in their life inside and outside of the classroom. In SD22, we believe that play is a powerful way for children to learn about themselves and how the world works. Early years experiences in Kindergarten to Grade 3 carry forward with children into adolescence and adulthood. The way we engage our students in play matters and our learning environments are full of endless potential as we seek to provide play-based learning opportunities that contribute to the development of:
- Strong communication and critical thinking skills
- Relationship building and a growing sense of responsibility
- Collaboration, persistence and problem solving skills
- Curiosity and an innovative and investigative mindset
- Literacy and numeracy skills
- An increased understanding of diversity, empathy and compassion
