September is Ukrainian Heritage Month in Canada.
Canada is home to more than 1.3 million Ukrainian Canadians and they have left and continue to leave a historic mark on Canada, with contributions that span communities across the country and are reflected in Canada’s economic, political, social and cultural life. The first Ukrainians arrived in Canada in 1891 with 150 000 estimated to have come to Canada between 1891 and 1914. Since Canada offered to open its doors to an unlimited number of refugees from Ukraine, more than 200,000 Ukrainians have arrived after fleeing the war in their country that began two years ago.
